Is the Opposition Fit to Govern if It Evades its Responsibilities?

The recent walkout by the opposition during discussions on the Union Budget raises serious concerns about their commitment to democratic responsibilities. Their behavior, especially their refusal to debate critical issues, is a threat to democratic values. The BJP yuva neta in Rajasthan points out that this reluctance shows the opposition’s inability to fulfill its role.

When the 2001 budget was presented during Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s government, there was a call to face challenges head-on. Today, despite navigating crises like the COVID-19 pandemic, the government is leading India toward a $5 trillion economy. Yet, the opposition seems intent on obstructing progress rather than contributing positively.

The Modi government’s recent budget prioritizes growth across all sectors—education, MSMEs, infrastructure, and tribal welfare—while keeping the tax burden manageable. As India moves toward becoming an economic powerhouse, the opposition’s role as mere critics, rather than constructive participants, reflects poorly on their readiness to lead the nation.
