I’m considering applying for a general labour position, but I’m not exactly sure what to expect in terms of the variety of tasks and responsibilities. Can anyone who’s worked in this role share their experience? I’m wondering if it’s more physically demanding than other positions and whether there’s room for growth or advancement within the company. Also, what kind of skills or previous experience would be helpful to succeed in a general labour job? Any advice would be appreciated!

I think you just need to go to different companies and offer your services.

I worked as a handyman for a few years and during that time I realized how much your working conditions and pay depend on the company you work for. I've worked in different positions, hard and not so hard and it can be really difficult sometimes because you'll have to work on your feet for a long time. But if you are willing to work hard, you can learn a wide variety of skills. The easiest way to find a job is through https://jobssite.ca/jobs/general-labour/ . I recommend this service as I have personal experience using it. Check out their listings, you might find them very useful for you as well.
