what is pink eye, medically known as conjunctivitis, is a common eye condition characterised by inflammation of the conjunctiva, the clear tissue that covers the white part of the eye and lines the inside of the eyelid. There are three main types of pink eye:

Viral Conjunctivitis: Caused by a viral infection (similar to the common cold), it's highly contagious and may lead to watery discharge and redness.

Bacterial Conjunctivitis: Caused by bacteria, it can result in a yellow-green discharge and may affect one or both eyes.

Allergic Conjunctivitis: Triggered by allergens like pollen or pet dander, it's not contagious and often presents with itching, redness, and watery eyes.

Treatment varies depending on the cause and may include artificial tears, antihistamines, or antibiotic eye drops. Proper hygiene, like frequent handwashing, can help prevent the spread of pink eye, especially in cases of viral or bacterial conjunctivitis. If you suspect you have pink eye, it's advisable to consult a healthcare professional for a proper diagnosis and treatment.
