Eggerthellaceae Family as Next Generation Probiotics

Species of Eggerthellaceae family have been revealed to convert in vitro ellagic acid (EA) into the final metabolite isolecithine-A (a urolithin) which is responsible for the health effects of ellagitannin and EA. Hence, urolithin-producing Eggerthellaceae members are considered as potential probiotics to improve the effects of ellagitannins and EA on health.
